Hank's Place on Dale Mabry

"Hank's knows true country boys want "pepper sauce" to go with their collard greens, that's why its on every table."

Not long after the Rock n Roll themed BBQ restaurant CJ's Bar-B-Skew opened in Carrollwood, Hank's put their sign up saying "coming soon". When I noticed Hank's was also going to be a BBQ restaurant, I was actually worried one of them would not be able to make it in the same neighborhood. I don't see that being the case.

While CJ's Bar-B-Skew has a very unique Rock n' Roll theme, Hank's place has a clear target market. It's the Tampa born country boy that that loves his fried catfish with okra & tomatoes. They also serve beer.

At Hank's you can enjoy your fried catfish, BBQ pork, and smoked country sausage while listening to country music. Hank's actually knows true country boys want "pepper sauce" to go with their collard greens, that's why its on every table.

A few more unique things about Hank's

  • They Have a Drive Through
  • They Have Their Own Hanks Creme Soda & Root Beer
  • They Sell Moonpies at the register

Hank's has such a country theme, they have a horseshoe, and shotgun (hopefully fake) mounted over the door. On every table there is a mason jar with a piece of cotton and flowers inside. (If That ain't country, I don't know what is).

I Stopped in today on their second day open.

I had the fried catfish served with corn on the cob, and okra & tomatoes for $8.95. The fried catfish was prepared just perfect. The okra & tomatoes was just like grandma used to make. I also had a Yuengling ($2.75).

I think Hank's is a great addition to Tampa & Carrollwood. You should definitely check it out.
